How do I learn more about the College's history?
There are a number of ways to learn more about the history of our College, which began as the Oneonta Normal School back in 1889, when James M. Milne was Principal and the College consisted of one building - what we fondly refer to as Old Main.
The Library has a number of books that you can check out, including:
- Carey Brush's In Honor and Good Faith: A History of the State University College at Oneonta available in the Circulating Collection: LB1921.O6 B78
- Carey Brush's In Honor and Good Faith: Completing the First Century, 1965-1990 available in the Circulating Collection: LB1921.O6 B78 1997
- David Brenner's State University of New York College at Oneonta available in the New York State Collection (Sub-basement) NYS LD3848.O7 B7 2002
You can also see history first-hand by browsing yearbooks, student newspapers, photographs, and other primary sources available in the archives; simply email Heather Stalter for an appointment in the Alden Room.
