Which version of my article should I submit to SOAR?

Answer

For articles published in academic journals, it depends on your publisher's rules. SOAR accepts the "version of record" or "accepted manuscript" versions (see definitions below). Sherpa/Romeo is a great resource to look up the versioning and embargo rules for your specific journal/publisher.

  • Version of record: The formatted, published version in the journal. The version connected to a DOI.
  • Accepted manuscript / Author-accepted manuscript (post-print): The last version an author submitted that was accepted by a journal after the peer-review process. This is the version that contains all the content but has not been formatted or copyedited by the journal.
  • Working paper/Submitted paper (pre-print): Versions of a paper before or during peer review.
