My professor wants me to use a monograph, but I don't know what that is.
Definition
Monographs are single-volume books providing in-depth research into a single subject or part of a subject. Monographs are geared toward an academic audience and are intended to contribute to a broader body of knowledge in an academic discipline. These books are also sometimes referred to as scholarly monographs.
Characteristics of a monograph
o Usually written by one author, who is an expert or scholar in the field.
o Often published by an academic, university, or other scholarly press.
o Sources are always cited and include detailed footnotes and/or an extensive bibliography or works cited section.
o Intended for others in the field; often will use discipline-specific language and assume some prior knowledge in the subject area.
